considerations The garden is exposed to wind and sun. A distinct feature of the site is mature Lombardy Poplars that conjure a feeling of a Tuscan hillside.
solution A masterplan was produced so that we could understand, discuss and phase the whole site. The ground was terraced and poplar walkways and strategic native copses planted to provide the shelter needed to plant orchards and nutteries. A series of spaces has been created around the house, including morning and evening terraces, and a south-facing first floor landing stage. The project has been undertaken over an 11 year period and continues with the planting of poplar walkways. Planning approval has been obtained for a hard tennis court and swimming pool.
